Sometimes, I hate my kids.
Your reaction to the above statement will likely indicate whether you have or have had a hand in raising children.
If you thought “ugh, that’s a horrible thing to say!”, my guess is you’ve yet to deal with them in a real, real life manner.
If you nodded your head, chances are that you have felt the same at least once, maybe often.
I observe the same phenomenon in airports and other public places. The people looking askance at parents with fussy/screaming kids, judgment written all over their faces (and yes, I’ve been one)? Probably limited to babysitting once in a while, if that. Maybe has a dog or a cat, and figures they’re about the same, so why the hell can’t those people keep that child quiet?
The people going about their business nomjudgmentally? My guess is they’ve been there.
And they understand that you can, in fact, hate your kids. While loving them.
